Kopi Luwak: The World's Most Exclusive Coffee
Kopi Luwak is the world's most exclusive coffee, and its high value is attributed to the uncommon method of production. This coffee is produced from coffee beans that have been digested by wild Indonesian palm civets, also known as Luwaks. After collection, the beans are washed, cleaned, and roasted at around 400 degrees, ensuring that they are 100% clean and safe to drink.
The wild palm civets play a crucial role in the production of Kopi Luwak. They sort through the coffee cherries and discard any low-quality or damaged fruits. Additionally, the flavor of the coffee is improved by passing through the civet's digestive system, where an enzymatic process de-acidifies the beans and enhances the flavor profile.
At Kaya Kopi, the company committed to the environment and collects Kopi Luwak only from wild civets living a healthy life in bio-diverse, shade-grown forests. The coffee is sourced from the Pangalangan Highlands of West Java, Indonesia, the original and best location to produce Kopi Luwak.
Kaya Kopi is a company founded by four friends – Melda, Nhi, Christopher, and Kevin – who share a passion for coffee, traveling, and connecting with new people. Melda, the Indonesian member of the group, owns the Kaya Kopi farm and produces Kopi Luwak. When Nhi and Christopher, who are from Vietnam and the United States, respectively, tasted Melda's Kopi Luwak, they were instantly hooked.
The team at Kaya Kopi searched for Luwak that was as good as Melda's, but they found that much of the Kopi Luwak on the market was either mass-produced with no regard for animal wellness or produced to maximize profits at the expense of quality coffee. To ensure the highest quality, Kaya Kopi collects the coffee beans after the Luwak excretes them, removes the outer layer of each bean, and carefully cleans, sun-dries, and roasts the beans.
The result is a Kopi Luwak that is noticeably not bitter, intensely aromatic, and has a complex flavor profile that is smooth, earthy, and sweet with a hint of chocolate. This unique taste is a result of the coffee beans being grown at an altitude of 4,000 feet (1,200 M) in the heart of the Pangalengan Highlands of West Java, Indonesia, and the enzymatic process that takes place in the Luwak's digestive system.
Kaya Kopi Luwak is the ideal drink for special guests, relaxation, or simply to enjoy the perfect taste of the best coffee available. The company is committed to ensuring that no animals are harmed in the production of this coffee, as they believe that Kopi Luwak from free-range wild Luwaks tastes much better than that from caged animals.
